| Cheb Khaled, born Khaled Hadj Brahim on 29 February 1960 in Sidi-El-Houri (Algeria) is an Algerian raο singer and songwriter. Cheb Khaled formed his band, ''Les Cinq Etoiles" at the age of fourteen and plays first at private parties and local cabarets. At the same year, he released his first solo single ''Trigue Lycιe'' (Road to High School''). As soon as Cheb Khaled become a raο music symbol in Algeria, he was confronted to fundamentalists threats as many other Algerian raο artists. After many were murdered, Cheb Khaled went to Paris in 1986. In 1992, Cheb Khaled, released an album '' Khaled''. The album was very successful and consecrated the singer as superstar. Throughout the 1990s, Khaled went from success to success. ''Aicha'' (1996), ''Lillah'' (1997) achieved earning him a world-wide recognition. In 2000, Cheb Khaled released ''Lharba Wine'' with an Indian contribution. The song was a hit. Cheb Khaled, alias the "King of Raο'' was awarded the Artist of the year in 1995. He won the World Music Awards in 1997 for his album "Sahra'' and shared it with Rachid Taha and Faudel in 1999 for their concert at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy known as 1,2,3 Soleils. In 2005, Cheb Khaled is the Mid East & North Africa Winner of the R3 Awards BBC Awards for World Music. |
